Christ, according to Blake, was the son of an unidentified human father and was
begotten out of wedlock. Blake was convinced that Jesus considered himself the chosen Messiah, but that he did
not consider himself the Son of God in any special sense.
According to The Blake Dictionary, "Blake agreed with the Deists that Christ never
performed any miracles which violate the laws of nature." Blake was in many ways a deeply religious man: he believed that
every man is created in the image of God; men can know God through creative acts and unfettered living. God and man are inseparable.
To Blake, Jesus symbolizes the imagination, the creative power that allows man to be a part of God. For Blake, Jesus was the human God.
